CANI OFC, Internet in Andaman and Nicobar Islands

The internet connection in the present time is not a necessary, it's a necessity. In Andaman and Nicobar Island, internet connectivity is highly dependent on the Satellite connectivity. People in Andaman and Nicobar island can only enjoy the limited bandwidth. We could say that the internet service is not well developed for 4G and the people of Andaman and Nicobar are facing high internet and communication tariffs along with low speed. (Which means that the people in A&N have to pay high Internet bills and are facing low internet speed).

According to the reports, once an individual in Andaman had to pay at least around Rs. 54K for BSNL Internet connection (Including GST). These figures are unacceptable, because since the last 4 years in India, the tariffs for Internet and communications are very reasonable for each and every citizens.

What CANI OFC is?

CANI is interestingly an abbreviation for Chennai - Andaman and Nicobar Island, which is the submarine optical fiber cable project under the Government of India, and the OFC is Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exposition which is commonly called as Fiber Optic Cable. The project aims to establish 2400 KMs long undersea cable between Chennai and the Andaman Nicobar Islands. This project will empower the internet connection and digital India initiative and will increase the speed of internet with mainland.

The project has promised to give at least 100 GBPS speed of Internet in Andaman and Nicobar Islands and it will be also helpful for uplifting 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' and 'Digital India' Initiative under the GOI. Also, this project has promised to increase the speed of internet by 3 to 4 times as compared to the present speed.

On 10th of Aug. OFC has launched successfully. In Andaman the FTTH (Fiber To The Home) and broadband users are very less and the number of mobile towers are very minimal than the mainland, everyone wants an individual internet connectivity in their devices. BSNL wants the 4G spectrum in Andaman and Nicobar and the people are requesting the DoT (Department of Telecommunication) for allowing the BSNL to plant 4G spectrum. Although in many states, there are no 4G spectrum for BSNL in the mainland.

After the CANI OFC project, the internet and communication services will be more stronger than present and it will also match to the mainland. Currently, in A&N Vodafone, Airtel and BSNL are the key players; who are providing a good Internet services. Reliance Jio and Idea are currently very weak internet services provider in A&N.
