VADODARA | Rain Water Harvesting Plan | Could Save Around 10 Litres of Water This Monsoon | 'Varsha Jal Nidhi' Project

Gorakhpur, Dec 10 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Minister for Jal Shakti Dr Mahendra Singh has said the state government will soon bring a law for rain water harvesting. "Water conservation is the need of the hour. It will ensure easy availability of water and the yield of farmers will also increase, " he said "Water is life and for a prosperous future, it is necessary to save every drop of water.
Under this project various Water Harvesting and Water Conservation projects are being carried out simultaneously. In Vadodara, city in Gujarat; over 1K Primary and Secondary school have set up the Rain Water Harvesting Plan.
According to DM Vadodara, it is the first ever city in our Country, to develop and implement the Rain Water Harvesting project which comes under 'Varsha Jal Nidhi' Project.
Last August (2019), Vadodara faced so many difficulties and floods.
“Last year, there were huge floods in Vadodara. It was the worst flood witnessed in the last 30 to 35 years and the whole city was submerged. Even after the floods, there were complaints of drinking water and I was very disturbed by the wastage of this water,” - DM Vadodara to Media.
Today only 8% of Water is being harvested. In future, we are assuming that this number would increase.
“We committed that in one year before the next monsoon, we will cover all our government schools with rainwater harvesting structures,” - DM Vadodara to Media.

Apart from water conservation, the government is also working to ensure availability of pure drinking water to everyone,” Mr. Singh said while presiding over the first technical session of water section in the national webinar cum seminar on `sustainable development: issues, strategies and future direction of Purvanchal’, in Gorakhpur on Thursday.
It is to be mentioned that the three-day seminar has been jointly organized by the planning department and the Deen Dayal Upadhyay University, Gorakhpur. "We have launched the `Khet Taal’ scheme and `Har Ghar Nal’ scheme in the Vindhya region for ensuring pure drinking water in every household. This scheme will soon be extended in other parts of the state including Purvanchal”, said Mr. Singh.
Our efforts are that not a single drop of water is wasted and had pure drinking water been provided earlier, there would have been no diseases like Japanese Encephalitis (JE)and Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) in Purvanchal. Whatever conclusion is drawn from brainstorming in this seminar, the government will take decisions on it, he added.
