R&AW | 4 Spy Aircrafts Which is Used By India's Foreign Intelligence Agency.

India's most successful Foreign Intelligence Agency R&AW (Research and Analysis Wing) is one of the most favorable Intelligence Agency among the all Indians and especially for Youngsters. 

R&AW is most favorable Intelligence agency in terms of Reconnaissance operations and Intelligence Photography Operations.

All Air operations are Performed under the Aviation Research Centre (ARC), which comes under R&AW. Most commonly this Centre organizes Reconnaissance Missions.

Reason for Writing An Article on Spy Planes of R&AW

3 Months ago, Open Source Intelligence Team's Twitter handle posed a path of Indian Air Force's Boeing 707 Airplane. According to them, in live flight tracker site FlightRadar24 stated that IAF's Boeing 707 was seen into the Pakistan's Air Space. This airplane is currently used by India's Foreign Intelligence Agency R&AW's Aviation Research Centre (ARC) wing.  

Although, this claim is not being proven right. There are some sources which said that it could be a Technical Glitch by that live flight tracking site. But we can consider that in India Boeing 707 is still in use.

Let's Know About The Spy Planes of R&AW

1) Boeing 707

Boeing 707 is the US origin narrow body Airliner. It is manufactured by the Boeing Commercial Airplanes. It works on Signals Intelligence Operation Platform. Currently 1 Unit of Boeing 707 is in service of R&AW.

The main use of this Airplane is to keep deep eye into the Rival's area and to collect confidential information of enemy as a Strategic Surveillance Airborne System. In 1987 this Aircraft was received by ARC. Although, America's CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) was involved in the Establishment work of ARC; that's why this Aircraft was equipped from CIA's platform. 

This Aircraft was primarily used in Kargil War for Electronics Intelligence Operations. This Aircraft played a main role to identify the locations of enemies which were hidden in the hill areas. It was also used to intercept and jam the communication devices of Enemies. 

This Aircraft is still classified and the information about who flies it, which Personnel operates this airplane is still confidential. This information is not available in public domain. 

2) Global 5000

Global 5000 is the US Origin Aircraft and it was launched in 5th of February 2002. It has 39,800 KG of load carrying or take off weight capacity and has a range of about 8900 KM. Presently it is used for Electronics Intelligence Operations. 

At this date, 2 Units of Global 5000 is in Service. 

3) Gulfstream G100

Gulfstream G100 is designed and developed by Israel and the US. India has it's 1125 अस्त्र variant of aircraft. Mainly this Aircraft is used for Surveillance purpose. Whereas for Arial Reconnaissance, long range oblique photography is available. That's why it is used for Intelligence Photography Operations. Sometimes it is also used for Maritime Reconnaissance. 

Currently, how many units of this Aircraft is in service is confidential. 

4) Pipistrel Virus

Pipistrel Virus Aircraft is Slovenia origin 2 seated single engine light aircraft. On 12th of October 2015, Ministry of Defense ordered 194 Pipistrel Virus Aircraft. Among which 72 were for Indian Air Force, 12 for Indian Navy and 110 for National Cadet Corps (NCC). Twin seated SW 80 of Pipistrel Virus Aircraft is named as गरुड़ in India. It is most commonly used for Training purpose. 

Some units of Pipistrel Virus Aircraft is also used by R&AW.
